Fall farmers market dramatic play activity

Today we opened our very own Fall Farmer’s Market for the children, and they were so excited to start shopping! Each child began with three toy coins and had the opportunity to earn more throughout the day by showing responsibility and caring behavior.

The children used their coins to “buy” their favorite fruits, vegetables, and flowers, carefully placing each item into their own shopping bags. We reopened the market in the afternoon so they could enjoy another round of shopping and practice making new choices. To extend the fun even more, we later turned their favorite market items into stickers.

Learning Highlights

Through this playful experience, children practiced counting their coins and learned the concept of exchanging money for goods. They worked on waiting for their turn, sharing space, and helping friends while shopping. Earning extra coins encouraged responsibility and positive behavior in a meaningful way.

The children also expanded their vocabulary as they named different fruits and vegetables and talked about what they wanted to buy. Most importantly, they had so much fun learning through hands-on dramatic play!
